What is the Budget?
The Budget is the government’s main annual statement on tax and spending, delivered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to the House of Commons. The OBR, which is independent, publishes its economic and fiscal forecasts alongside it. HM Treasury publishes the full Budget documents, policy costings and tax information on GOV.UK on the day.
Many tax changes do not start immediately. Changes often apply from a later date, frequently the start of a tax year (the UK tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April), so read the “effective from” date for each measure.
